Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a scientifically based, highly very effective form of psychotherapy that is suitable for the treatment of almost any psychological illness in children, adolescents and adults. CBT is fundamentally problem and solution oriented and deals with the "now" instead of focusing on the past. At the beginning of the treatment, the causes and triggers for the current problem are assessed while focussing on behaviour, emotions and thinking patterns. In addition circumstances and conditions which result in the maintenance of the problems are analysed so that new strategies for reaction and coping can be learned step by step. Progress in dealing to difficult situations is often possible relatively quickly. Parents and other important caregivers are included in the therapy (if possible).
